About the Artist

I am the daughter of a self taught artist who had the ability to inspire. The smell of oil paint in the house was the norm and large canvases stood proud in my dad’s studio. My early start in creating art was mainly abstract doodles and drawings. My intuition was always driving me to create and I chose to ignore this until I experienced an emotionally stormy period in my life. Surviving this I then committed to diving deep into myself to discover who I was. I picked up a pencil and started to draw again. Soon after bought myself some paints and experimented. My mind felt like it was bathed in peace whilst I engaged in creating art. The impact of being creative seemed to last like a pleasant dream for some time after. As the quote by Maya Angelou States ‘ You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.’ I found the more I created, the deeper I understood myself. I felt present in my own life and more in control. I was living the power of art and its ability to change us and the world we live in.

My subject that continues to fascinate me is reflection on water, dappled light, waterlilies and lily pads. There is symbolic attraction in that the brightness of the lily glows like no other flower, pulsating an energy of peace and tranquility. I haven’t yet fully arrived at that point in my life. My creative will keeps driving to achieve the deep self peace and harmony.

My approach to my art is balanced between experimental mixed media and lose spontaneous use of colours. I’ve recently been on a Print Making Course to learn how to create a Collagraph plate. I felt as if I had come home! I have no formal qualification in art but a commitment to learning is how I have developed as an artist. Seeing the power of art to change things in my own life gave me the confidence to bring it into my work life as an Advocacy Co-ordinator for people with Autism and /or a learning disability.
